In the world of the near future, artificial intelligence is ubiquitous. Usually it works well, making decisions efficiently and correctly. But the criminal justice system has become increasingly dependent upon AI to obtain convictions and operate prisons, not knowing – or not caring – about its inherent amorality.
Mykola Steinman, a young man claiming to be unjustly convicted, is living this nightmare in the Arizona-New California State Prison, where inmates are controlled with electronic collars and AI surveillance. The more he and cellmate Alex Rodgers learn about the new system, the more disturbed they are by its casual brutality, psychological abuse, and total disregard for privacy... and the more determined they are to expose the true nature of this "state of the art" corrections system to the world.
